Fifty-four-year-old educationist installed as Odikro

Kruwi (Ash), Oct. 26, GNA - Mr Kwabena Badu Sarpong, a 54-year-old headteacher of the Kruwi Local Authority Primary and Junior Secondary Schools near Nsuta in the Sekyere West District of Ashanti was on Monday installed as the Odikro of the town under the stool name Nana Kwabena Sarpong-Kumankuma.

Caretakers appointed by Nana Okyere Tutu, Mpantuase odikro, were formerly occupying the stool.

Swearing to his people after his historic installation, Nana Sarpong-Kumankuma emphasised the importance of education in the socio-economic and political development of the country.

He urged the people to give quality education to their children to enable them to play positive roles in the country's development. Nana Sarpong-Kumankuma, who is an Assistant Director of Education, was not happy with some parents who allowed their children to devote much of their time to watching video, film shows and television and advised such children to concentrate on their books to enable them to achieve academic laurels in the future.

The Odikro gave the assurance that he would mobilise the people to undertake communal labour and initiate development projects to improve their living conditions.

He stressed the need for them to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene at their homes and surroundings at all times to avoid the spread of diseases and epidemic.

Nana Sarpong-Kumankuma called for unity so as to accelerate the development of the town.

Nana Okyere Tutu, Odikro of Mpantuase, described the installation of Nana Sarpong-Kumankuma as historic, adding: "This is the first time in the history of Kruwi that an odikro has been installed". He advised the odikro not to lord it over the people but to always consult them in the day-to-day administration and decision-making.
