Accra, Oct. 3, GNA- The US Ambassador to Ghana Mr Donald Gene Teitelbaum on Friday assured Ghanaians that the fight against malaria remained a priority on President George Bush's agenda. He said it was the President's wish that there will be a time when the two countries will meet and celebrate the wiping away of malaria from Ghana and Africa as whole. The Ambassador gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheik Ibrahim C. Quaye in Accra. The Ambassador is in the country to replace Ms. Pamela Bridgewaters whose term of office ended four months ago. He explained that malaria was a disease that could be eradicated and that "America had the same problem but we managed to wipe it off over decades ago".
Ambassador Teitelbaum noted that Ghana and United States had a long, deep and good relationship "and many Americans trace their roots to Ghana and we want to maintain and strengthen that relationship". Sheik Quaye expressed concern about the fight against malaria and commended the U.S for voting 17 million dollars to fight it. He called for cooperation between the two countries and pledged Ghana's support and commitment in ensuring that President Bush's dream of helping Ghana and Africa fight malaria became a reality.
