The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Report, Rashida Saani, has stressed the need for a multi-dimensional approach to combat misinformation and disinformation.

Speaking at the inaugural Ghana Report Summit on August 1, 2024, she said the fight against this emerging trend cannot be left to one group alone as it requires concerted efforts.

“In the age of the new media, where everyone has turned into their own PR and owners of television or radio stations, you can literally direct or determine the narratives about yourself. We thought that people should do it responsibly. Sometimes people put out unverified information on social media and it causes so much chaos. We have seen what misinformation has done to other jurisdictions and even people in the sub-region,” Saani told GhanaWeb.

She stressed the need for the public to as a matter of urgency authenticate any information they came across before disseminating it.

“When you come across any information, verify it and ensure that fake news does not thrive in our jurisdiction”, she stated.

The summit which was themed, ‘Dealing with Misinformation and Disinformation- Election 2024’ assembled a diverse group of renowned thought leaders, policymakers, and other distinguished professionals to explore comprehensive strategies for mitigating risks associated with false information.
