Final year students fees reduction will pose no problem – GES PRO

GES has slashed the 3rd term fees of all final year students in Senior High Schools GES has slashed the 3rd term fees of all final year students in Senior High Schools

The Brong Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Luke Mensah has debunked speculations that the recent reduction in the fees of final year Senior High School students would not go down well with the school authorities.

He said adequate discussions were done before the announcement of the package by the government through the Ministry of Education, so there was no way any section of the ministry could be peeved.

In an interview on Suncity Radio, Tuesday morning, Mr Mensah explained that the ministry gave a 50% reduction of fees paid by final year students writing the WASCE, because they did not stay in school the full length of 14 weeks.

He said those who are yet to pay their fees would only pay half of it, while those who had paid up fully, would have half of the fees calculated and refunded to them.

“It’s a way of lessening the cost of education on parents and to motivate students to enjoy quality education and become responsible and productive citizens of the country,” he explained.

Mr Mensah debunked the notion from a section of the public that the school authorities would not be happy because the monies could have been retained and used for other purposes in the schools.
