Kumasi, June 28, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Kumasi recorded about 500 false fire alarms from January to date from residents in the Kumasi metropolis. The Kumasi High School leads in the false fire alarms, Mr Franklin Masiku, the Regional Public Relations Officer, said in Kumasi on Tuesday.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, he said the installation of a caller identification machine showed that a telephone booth installed at Kumasi High School was the source of several fire alarms. Mr Masiku said the GNFS was liasing with communication service providers like Ghana Telecom, Spacefon Areeba, Mobitel and Kasapa to track down people who raise false fire alarms for prosecution. He cautioned people to desist from raising such false alarms and that people who would be in distress could call the three emergency numbers of the service - 191, 192 and 193.
