Fire guts Kokompe in Takoradi

A leftover cigarette ignited sawdust resulting in a fire outbreak at Kokompe, an industrial enclave in Takoradi, the oil city of the Western region.

The Western Regional Assistant Fire Officer, Mr. William Yawson, told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that, the fire started at 0520 hours in the morning.

He said the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to put out the fire around 1015 hours, adding that no life was lost nor property destroyed.

He said Fire personnel responded promptly to a distress call, by dispatching a fire tender from the Apremdo Fire Station to the scene, but it run out of water quickly due to the severity of the fire.

It went for refill at the head office at the Fijai Station, and quenched the fire in four hours.

M. Yawson cautioned the public to be extra cautious with naked fire since we are entering the Harmattan season which is usually associated with fire outbreaks due to the dry weather.

He assured the public that the GNFS would not relent on its core mandate of protecting the citizenry and property against fire hazards.**
