Fire has gutted a tanker at Gomoa Dabayin area, a farming community near the Liberia Camp, in the Central Region.

The cause of the fire is not immediately known, but a resident and an eyewitness at the scene told Citi News that the blaze started around 6:15 pm.

The report suggested that as the fire continued to flare, some recalcitrant drivers sped past the glaring flames.

The incident happened on the busy Kasoa-Winneba road, also noted for its deadly accidents and about 15 minutes from the Bujumbura Camp.

“I asked and was told that there is a burning tanker so I went there to see and is so glaring and what scares me is that the recalcitrant drivers are still driving past.

“There is a route that is less than 50 metres from where the tanker is burning and that is where the drivers are using. My fear is that these drivers will endanger all of us here.

“You know petrol and fire are a dangerous combination,” an eyewitness who gave her name as Mommy said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has reportedly responded to a distress call from residents and is working to bring the fire under control.

Early this year, a similar incident happened at Buipe in the Savannah Region, where three fuel tankers close to a depot of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) was high in flames.
