First outburst of harmattan expected soon

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) on Thursday called on the public to expect the first outburst of dry weather precipitating the harmattan as the second and minor rainy season being experienced in the southern part of the country was almost over.

“The Northern part of the country is already experiencing hazy conditions. “In the Southern sector we only expect isolated rains, but the actual rainy season is almost ended,” Mr. Tetteh Portuphy, GMA Senior Meteorologist at Kotoka International Airport, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview.

Mr. Portuphy said whilst the dry season was expected to begin in December, "we are monitoring the first outburst of the harmattan".

He said relative humidity was becoming low in the Upper East Region of the country as the statistics indicates that Navrongo is 35 per cent, Wa-41per cent, and Tamale-33 per cent.

The Senior Meteorologist said this was different from the situation in the southern part of the country where relative humidity in Accra is 67 per cent, Ada-75 per cent and Tema-76 per cent.
