Cape Coast, Aug. 27, - The Interim Management Committee of the Ghana Co-operative Fisheries Association (GCFA) Limited is negotiating with some banking institutions to finance the importation of all fishing inputs for the association. Already, the Pioneer Co-operative Coldstore Complex has granted 20 million cedis to GCFA for the importation of fishing gear, Nana William Buckman, general manager of GCFA, said yesterday. Nana Buckman made this known at a meeting with members of the Central Region branch of the Co-operative Fisheries Union in Cape Coast at a meeting called to revive the dormant union. He said the union could benefit from government's directives that all fishing organisations could import their own fishing needs without paying import duties. He said the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) has indicated its willingness to assist the association to import fishing inputs from the Japanese Co-operative Fisheries Federation. He said the ICA has invited the association to its general meeting in Switzerland this year.
