Cape Coast, Feb 13, GNA- Atta Kakra, a 20 year-old fisherman from Ayisah near Elmina was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by a circuit court at Cape Coast for allegedly defiling his two year- old step daughter.
Kakra pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Tuesday March 13. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah that the complainant, Akua Ackon, the victim's mother, left her in the care of a seven-year old boy on January 13 this year, and went to the market.
Chief Inspector Amonoo said when Akua returned from the market she met her husband, (Kakra) with the child who was bleeding from her private part.
He said Kakra explained to his wife that her daughter was bleeding because he inserted his fingers into her private part while giving her a bath after she had soiled herself.
He said, subsequently, the couple took the victim to the Elmina clinic, but after examining her, the nurse on duty advised them to report the matter to the police for further investigations. Chief inspector Amonoo said on their way to the police station, Kakra pleaded with the wife for an amicable settlement instead of going to the police, but she refused.
Kakra then took to his heels, but she raised an alarm and he was arrested.
The prosecutor said during interrogation, Kakra admitted inserting his fingers in the victim's private part and a medical report issued indicated that the victim's hymen has been broken.
