Takoradi, March 1, GNA- Two fisheries associations in the country have appealed to the government to reconsider the decision to impose a total ban on the use of generators and special light for fishing.
In a statement signed by Mr Charles Hayford Acquah, National Executive Member of the Ghana Inshore Fisheries Association who signed the statement on behalf of the National Canoe Fishermen Council (NCFC) said the use of light in fishing should be regulated instead of banning it.
Mr. Acquah, appealed to the government to intervene in an impasse between the associations and the Western Regional Security Committee. The impasse is over the alleged illegal seizure of generators, fishing nets and other gadgets from some fishermen by personnel of the Navy at the instance of REGSEC before the deadline of the ban.
The total ban on the use of these equipment and other materials is said to be having adverse effects on the fishing industry.
