Accra, Dec. 13, GNA - The Five Garrison Schools at Burma Camp on Tuesday held its first ever Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols to usher in the celebration of Christmas. The National Symphony Orchestra and the school choir sang Christmas carols to glorify God for His protection over the years and to reaffirm belief in the birth of Jesus Christ. The Reverend Major Adoteye Asare of Arrakan Methodist Church described Jesus as a counsellor, who could handle every problem and urged people to seek Him during their difficult moments. He said Jesus was born to save mankind and Christmas was, therefore, a time for Christians to reflect on the birth of their saviour.
Major Robert Adwini, Chief Education Officer of the Garrison Education Unit, said enrolment at the Schools had continued to grow over the years due to the performance of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examinations. He said the Ghana Armed Forces solely managed the schools in the past with military teachers but due to an increase in enrolment, the Unit had for sometime now relied on the Ghana Education Service to post teachers to the schools. The Government paid teachers from the GES while the Military catered for the infrastructure, he said.
