The Police in the Northern region have arrested five persons suspected to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly seizing a revenue collection point on the Savelugu-Kpalung road.
Seizure of public properties including toll booths became rampant immediately after the change of government. President Akufo-Addo condemned the act in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Wednesday.
A police source told the state-owned Daily Graphic the ring leader of the group known as Abdulai Alhassan Gariba, 32, is currently behind bars with four others.
The source revealed an AK-47 assault rifle was found hidden in the engine compartment of a taxi he was driving at the time of arrest.
In addition two magazines loaded with 32 rounds of ammunitions were also found concealed under the driver’s seat; a machete was found in the boot of the car.
Investigations are still ongoing into the case.
