Five armed robbers arrested

Kasoa (C/R) Nov. 16 GNA- Five suspected armed robbers, including a women, have been arrested in a Police/Military operation at Kasoa in the Central Region.

They are: Suleman Osumanu, Dun Juman Adremani, John Kojo, and Adramani Alhassan, all from Kasoa, Autali Ishaaka from Madina in Accra and Lukuyaa Alhassan, a 21-year old woman from Nima, Accra. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Charles Adalong, the Kasoa District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency, in an interview that the Awutu Magistrate Court, had remanded the suspects in prison custody.

Their pleads were not taken and would reappear on November 26. ASP Adalong said the arrest of the suspects followed the rising incidence of criminal activities in the town, including the robbery of stores and snatching of mobile phones.

He said on November 11, this year, a gang of armed robbers attacked the Allied Filling Station on the Kasoa-Bawjiase road and made away with a number of mobile phones and a cash of 3.1 million cedis. ASP Adalong said the suspects were arrested upon a tip-off in their hideout.

When a search was conducted on them a locally manufactured pistol, and stolen items including television sets were found. ASP Adalong said during interrogations the robbers admitted that they were the gang that attacked the Filling Station and a store belonging to a Journalist.
