Five die in lorry accident

Nkoranza (B/A), Jan. 11, GNA- Five persons died, two on the spot and the remaining three on admission at St. Theresa's Catholic Hospital at Nkoranza, when two taxis collided at Bibiani, a town on the Nkoranza-Techiman highway on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Elvis Akpem Naanwinson, a 28-year-old teacher, Stephen Kwadwo Yeboah, 16, Adwoa Addobea, 30, Bosco Tieikye, 36 and Akosua Samboma Tieikye, 67.

Police Superintendent Benjamin Wiafe-Kwabeng in-charge of the Nkoranza Police Station told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that six others including the two drivers, who sustained serious injuries, are on admission at the Hospital.

Police said the driver of an open corsa cab lost control when negotiating a curve at Bibiani and veered into the lane of an on-coming Daewoo Tico cab and collided with it.

Sources close to police said the late Naanwinson who taught at Pinihe Local Junior Secondary School (JSS) in the district was returning from his hometown, Nandom, in the Upper West Region after the Christmas holidays.

Police are still investigating, the source said.
