Richard Osarfo, a young Ghanaian graduate from the University of Education, Winneba, has shared why he is currently on the streets cleaning and fixing signposts.

After graduating, he read about the high number of accidents in Ghana each year. Realising that many lives were being lost, he founded GH-SIGNBOARD to help reduce accidents.

Osarfo now spends his time washing signposts that have been covered with posters and stickers.

He also repairs broken ones using his own money.

During his appearance on the first episode of GhanaWeb TV's pEveryday People, Osarfo said, “I decided to take up this initiative for Ghana when I realized the number of Ghanaians dying in accidents. In 2023, 2,300 lives were lost in accidents, and in 2024, almost 2,000 people died.

"Seeing the number of Ghanaians dying due to accidents gives me sleepless nights, so I decided to fix broken signposts and clean those covered with stickers and posters."

His motivation grew even stronger when his own mother was involved in an accident and encouraged him to continue with the initiative.

“Two years ago, I was involved in an accident with my mother at Banyard. As a result, she has left Accra for the village because the accident affected her greatly. She was so excited when she learned that I had begun this initiative and said, ‘God bless you for doing this and preventing others from going through what I went through,’” he told GhanaWeb's Victoria Kyei Baffour.

Richard Osarfo's greatest wish is to receive support from Ibrahim Mahama, someone he has looked up to since starting the initiative.
