President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in 2016 did not spare former President Mahama the ‘jabs’ following the decision by the previous NDC administration to admit the two Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Nana Akufo-Addo who was then presidential candidate for the ruling NPP, lambasted President Mahama for failing to inform Parliament before resettling the two former Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby offered humanitarian assistance in Ghana for two years.

The failure on the part of government to seek parliamentary approval according to his communicators and most especially the Foreign Minister was due to the constitutional powers the President had, the then government argued.

But Nana Akufo Addo delivering his ''true state of the nation's address'', against President Mahama's address he delivered at the College of Physician and Surgeons said, President Mahama, should have informed Ghana's legislature before agreeing to resettle the detainees just like former President Obama informed Senate about his decison to shut down the bay.

''Our President should have taken the matter to Parliament just as the US President took the matter to his congress. The US President obviously did what he did, in the best interest of his people,'' Nana Addo added.

''Our President, [Mahama[ has succeeded in spreading fear and panic among the Ghanaian people,'' who are yet to accept that, the decision was taken in the supreme interest of the people.

According to him, the decision was unfortunate and unconstitutional.

Nana Addo lambasted President Mahama for failing to touch on the detainees when he presented his state of the nation's address claiming that, his Foreign Minister, Hannah Tetteh addressed the issue when she held a closed door meeting with legislators.
