Flooding of bridge affecting education --Chief

Nsawam, July 16, GNA - Over 600 children of Osaebo and Sakyi Agyakwah primary and JSS now find it difficult to attend school as the only wooden bridge over river Nar Tawiah is submerged in flood waters. Nii Arday IV, Chief of Afutu, a suburb of Nsawam who offered the land for the school said this when he inspected the area with newsmen on Monday.

He appealed to the Akuapim South District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service to come to their aid to construct a "hanging bridge" over the river to alleviate the problem of the school pupils who walk long distance by alternative routes to the school. Miss Rosemond Veha, Assistant Head Teacher of Sakyi Agyakwah School said the flooding of the bridge would hamper teaching and learning since the children would have to trek long distance to school. She therefore called on stakeholders to come to the aid of the school to save the situation. 16 July 07
