Asanteman Traditional Council charged the Police to investigate into the recent clashes at Foase Asanteman Traditional Council charged the Police to investigate into the recent clashes at Foase

The Asanteman Traditional Council has charged the Ashanti Regional Police Command to as matter of urgency conduct proper investigations into the recent deaths during a clash between the residents, military and police officers at Foase.

Three persons were shot dead while others sustained injuries after police officers rained life bullets on the residents on Wednesday February 7, 2017 following a clash between residents and police team over relocation of district capital from Foase to Twedie.

The Asanteman Traditional Council today summoned the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah, Foasehene Nana Bosiako Appiah Ampam Frimpong II, DCE for Atwima Kwanwoma Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi and the District Police Commander following the killing of three persons.

Bantamahene Nana Baffour Amankwaatia VI speaking on behalf of Asantehene expressed disappointment saying the police officers should have protected the residents and maintain law and order rather than killing them.

According to Barfour Amankwaatia VI, Kumasi Traditional Council will follow the police investigations on the issue and will ensure that the police will do proper investigations.

“Is the duty of police to protect citizens but not to kill citizens. When the Foase residents were doing the demonstration, the police should have used rubber bullet or pepper spray to calm down the situation but not life bullets. Do proper investigations and we will also monitor your investigations as far as the issue is concerned” he said

Barfour Amankwaatia VI therefore charged Ashanti Regional Police Commander to punish the police officers who killed the Foase residents.

Meanwhile the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah appealed to Asanteman Traditional Council to intervene so that the workers at the district assembly can go back to work.
