The former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho has criticized the opposition NDC and the NPP government for not engaging in argument of national importance but rather on family and friends matters.

He stated that there are more vital issues that the country is being challenged with but instead of both parties working in finding solutions to those problems, they have rather reduced the argument.

The NDC and NPP have engaged in an exchange of words and allegations within the week over the party that has run a nepotistic government.

But speaking on Kingdom FM’s Anopa Nkomo, Executive Director of the Atta Mills Institute, Mr. Anyidoho noted that,” the country is fighting poor sanitation, flooding, corruption, etc which the parties should concentrate their energy on.”

He stressed that the politicians should rather tell Ghanaians the policies they have for development and not a cheap argument about nepotism.

Mr. Anhidoho added that no government in the history of Ghana is ever clean of engaging in nepotism saying parties are run with families and friends and it is best to appointment family and friends to help run the government.

Background

The NDC has since the assumption of office of President Akufo-Addo in 2017, repeatedly sought to stain his administration with allegations of nepotism, accusing him of fielding his close relations in key positions.

The situation was not different at the NDC’s ‘Moment of Truth Series’ in Accra Tuesday where they claimed to have identified 51 appointees in the Akufo-Addo government who are relatives and cronies of key persons in government.

Addressing a press conference Tuesday, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi listed 51 persons he claimed are relatives and cronies which he said pointed to “classic and unprecedented” nepotism within the Akufo-Addo government.

Addressing a press conference in Accra, the National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye said the non-Akan politics employed by the NDC won’t work.

“They should tell us their alternative for Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, the payment of the various allowances and others,” he added.

Nana B said: “Let us use this opportunity to ask Ghanaians to ask themselves a simple but very important question, perhaps, the most important question for 2020: What does John Mahama stand for? What does he believe in? What is his vision?”
