Focus on manifestos - Dr Mahama

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA - Dr Edward Mahama, presidential candidate of the People's National Convention (PNC), on Monday urged voters to focus on the manifestos of political parties to determine who to vote for instead of following empty promises.

He expressed concern about what he referred to as "politics of deceit" and said some presidential aspirants took the electorate for granted giving them empty promises instead of telling them the real situations.

Dr Mahama who gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency urged Ghanaians to consider voting for the PNC since it had the most practical manifesto.

Explaining some of the policies a PNC led-administration would implement for the people, Dr. Mahama said his party sought to alleviate poverty through balanced economic and social development.

"Serious action is needed in organizing an orderly and aesthetic development of our regional capitals, district capitals, towns and lesser communities," he said. Commenting on the sanitation, especially in the cities, the PNC leader said there would be community education programmes where giant screens would be mounted at vantage points like lorry parks to screen messages on sanitation. He said the PNC also intended to develop modern portable toilets to be used as the most popular strategy of providing free public toilets. Dr Mahama said the PNC would give Ghanaians real change and real hope and urged Ghanaians to vote the party into power in the December elections.
