Food preservation consortium for Ghana

Aflao, Dec.19, GNA - Hygress Technology Incorporated (HTI), a leading Canadian Food preservation technology development group is to lead in the establishment of a food preservation consortium in Ghana. The HTI specialized food storage system, the super-dry air generator, preserves fresh food and fruits by warming or heating them dry to remain for three to four years and regain their freshness when brought into contact with water.

With its establishment, Ghana will therefore, become a major supply base for the United Nations and other organisations for their relief food items, according to the expansion programme HTI-Ghana Cooperate Plan. Mr Erwin Spehr, President and Chief Executive Officer of HTI who participated in the just-ended Togolese International Trade Fair in Lome inspected a plot of land released by authorities of the Aflao Traditional Area for the project at Aflao.

Mr Spehr announced the interest of Canadian, Hong Kong and Singaporean business partners in the project and said construction work would take off next year. He said the problem facing Africa on food security was the lack of storage system to take care of the continent in terms of weather failure and HTI would assist Ghana with its stable economic environment to lead the way. Mr Spehr said a second company, a Spar Project, a natural health, recreational and a body-reinvigorating centre also earmarked at Aflao would take off later next year.

Mr Sephr, a German, 58, on his third visit to Aflao was on Sunday installed the "Agbonugla" (Holder of the key to Aflao's development) by the chiefs and people of Aflao led by Togbe Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief. Togbe Fiti said the investment plan for the area would be for the mutual benefit of the company, Aflao and Ghana. Togbe Midadje Dunenyo, a Senior Divisional Chief of Aflao based in Canada initiated the investment programme to Aflao. The HTI group has since visited Ministers of Agriculture for Togo and Ghana.
