The Executive Director for Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI-Ghana), Mr. Peter Bismark Kwofie, has lambasted individuals attacking the recent survey conducted by the political department of the University of Ghana, Legon.
According to the survey, 52.7 percent of Ghanaians indicated that they will vote for the NPP while 33.1 percent say their votes will go for the NDC.
5000 respondents from 250 electoral areas and 50 constituencies from the 10 regions participated in the survey. The respondents were of the view that policy implementation by government has been satisfactory.
Majority of the respondents were of the view that government has also demonstrated its capacity to deal with some of the challenges confronting the NPP administration led by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
They however expressed reservations on issues concerning unemployment and others. Dr Bossman Asare, Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana said 56 percent of the people interviewed said “they voted for the NPP” in the 2016 general elections and “almost 36 percent said they voted for the NDC”.
The decision of the respondents was driven mainly by the Free SHS Programme of the NPP with close to 77.6 percent indicating that despite the challenges they support government for the implementation of the policy in the first year.
64.5 percent of the respondents were in favour of the implementation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor even though there were reservations about the individual who will occupy the position and his or her neutrality.
The opposition NDC has slammed the research work and indicated that, it lacks credibility. Some NPP communicators have also suggested that, the survey was not credible because the president could be assessed based don a year in office.
But commenting on the issue, Mr. Kojo took a swipe at those individuals and wondered the basis for attacking the survey when they have not conducted same.
He described as ‘’foolish’’ the attacks on the research team saying, ‘’A research has been conducted by a group with findings for a critical public discourse. You have not conducted any research but condemning others own. We are the same people who would say Ghanaians don't conduct research. Exploratory researches are expensive and when done we must learn from the results and recommendations for a better society.
He added: ‘’We must pray for any government but to wish he fails for the other to rule anomalous. Such a ''foolish'' mentality must end. The only research I have ever rubbished is of the unemployment statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service. They knew very well it wasn't a good paper for policy decision. The reality on the ground is what the political science department of the University of Ghana has tabulated.’’
He concluded through a post on his official Facebook page saying: ‘’ILAPI has a similar paper of similar variables and different methodology but we knew many would not like to see one failing and was advised not to release. Remember ILAPI scored the NPP's one year government, 70% on policy implementation and monitoring.
