The leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has refuted the assertion that his decision to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shows that he is ungrateful.
According to Alan, an independent presidential candidate for the upcoming December 7, 2024, election, he served the party well and left at the right time.
The presidential candidate made this comment at GBC’s Presidential Encounters on Friday, November 22, 2024, where he described the NPP as a “declining party”.
He added that ‘no serious’ person would criticise his decision to leave the NPP because he served the party well.
He asserted that his decision to leave the NPP showed that he was putting the interests of the country first.
“That is a mark of a statesman; that is a mark of leadership. That is why I came out at a time that no serious person in NPP can make a claim against me, no serious person.
“So, I did my time, and I left at the right time. And that is why people believe in my message,” he said.
The leader of the Movement for Change added, “forget about the NPP; it is a declining party.”
Alan was heavily criticised by leading figures of the NPP, including the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), for his criticism of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Former President Kufuor recently granted an interview to some journalists where he endorsed the candidature of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying that Bawumia is the best person to lead the country at this moment.
Alan, who has since described President Kufuor’s endorsement as a big blot on his illustrious political career, questioned the basis of the former president’s endorsement while calling the vice president’s competence into question.
