The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has apologised for destroying the table of a vendor at the recently commissioned Flower Pot Interchange in Accra.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM, the regional minister, who was explaining his actions, indicated that he might have gone too far by destroying the table of vendors who set up shop under the interchange contrary to his orders.

He noticed that even though a lot of people were happy with his actions, others were not, and he offered to repay the woman whose table he was captured destroying as he was driving away vendors under the bridge.

“Some people have commended me for the swift move, but others have criticised me. Please forgive me. Maybe I went too far with the destruction of the table. I wanted to send the right signal to any person who would attempt to go and sell under the interchange.

“I would be going there if the woman shows up; I won’t mind giving her money to buy a new table. However, she must move her business elsewhere and not at the interchange,” he said in Twi.

Titus Glover added that he has instructed local authorities to put measures in place to ensure that no person is allowed to sell under the bridge.

Background:

The Greater Accra Regional Minister dismantled some wooden structures belonging to hawkers at the newly-commissioned Flower Pot Interchange, following his stern warning that no kiosks, containers, or unauthorised structures should be set up near the intersection after the commissioning on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Despite the minister's warning, some traders returned shortly after the inauguration, resuming operations in full force despite the regional minister's stern directive.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Titus is seen dismantling wooden structures used by hawkers to sell their goods.

He was captured in a video destroying a table which reportedly belonged to a woman who sells bananas.

The Flower Pot Interchange, constructed by China Railway Engineering Ghana, features an 802-meter dual carriageway and a modern overpass at the Spintex Road Flower Pot roundabout.

The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in high-density zones such as Cantonments, Burma Camp, East Legon, and Spintex, significantly cutting travel times and enhancing connectivity.
