Former Eastern Regional Minister laid to rest

Anum (E/R), Dec. 4, GNA - The Moderator of the Ghana Presbyterian Church, Rt. Rev. Dr Yaw Frempong-Manso, has called for stringent enforcement of the traffic regulations to arrest and punish irresponsible drivers.

He called for stiff application of the law against irresponsible and impatient drivers whose attitudes were causing the deaths of passengers and damage to properties.

Rt. Rev. Frempong-Manso, who was delivering the sermon at the burial service of Miss Patience Asarebea Adow, a former Eastern Regional Minister at Anum in the Asuogyaman District on Saturday.

Miss Adow died in a motor accident on October 7, in Accra. Rt. Rev. Frempong-Manso called for the strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations by the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit(MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service.

He expressed concern about the wanton disregard for traffic regulations and suggested that recognized garages be identified for their involvement in the training and assessment of vehicles of road worthiness of vehicles before Road Worthiness Certificates were issued to vehicle owners.

Rt. Rev. Frempong-Manso cautioned Christians to learn from the late Patience Adow's life of service to God and the Church, both as a Christian and politician and let her life and death bring about a life of concern for others as she tried to exemplify as a politician and a leading member of the Church.

In a tribute by former President John Rawlings, read for him by the 2004 flagbearer of the NDC, Professor John Atta Mill, he attributed the institution of the best teacher's award to the efforts by Miss Patience Adow ten years ago when she was a Deputy Minister of Education, and asked recipients of the annual awards to remember her on their receipt of award and in their prayers.

The NDC presented a cash of 20 million cedis and customary drinks while a government delegation led by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Yaw Barimah, presented six million cedis to the bereaved family. Other tributes read on behalf of the Ghana Presbyterian Church, the West African Examinations Council, the Eastern Regional Co-ordination Council among others, paid glowing tributes to the selfless dedication to duty by the Miss Patience Adow during her tenure of duty with them.
