The former Presiding Member of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, George Adu Darko, has been accused of assigning the Olebu Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound as an accommodation to a woman believed to be his girlfriend.

This accusation was made by the Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Anyaa Sowutuom constituency, Ralph Apetorgbor, who indicated that the facility, which was meant to provide primary healthcare to residents, is now being misused for personal purposes.

Apetorgbor added that the move raises significant ethical and administrative concerns.

Apetorgbor further stated that two families affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been residing in the facility with their relations since 2017, following the transition of governance to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.

He made these allegations on TV3's Community Manifesto on Monday, and monitored by GhanaWeb.

The program aims to present candidates' policies and visions ahead of the 2024 general elections, bringing political discussions closer to the grassroots level and helping voters make informed decisions.

“The Olebu CHPS compound, which was completed during the NDC administration, is intended to serve the community's healthcare needs. Diverting its use for personal purposes has deprived residents of essential services,” Apetorgbor stated.

He called for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and transparency in the administration of public assets.

In response, Ambrose Tsegah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga Central Municipal Assembly, who also appeared on the program, defended George Darko by explaining that the facility in question was a waterlogged area.

However, Darko and Tsegah are yet to respond to the NDC executive's specific allegations.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Tobbin, the NPP parliamentary candidate, failed to participate in the debate due to a language barrier, insisting that the debate should be held in Twi.

This request was opposed by the NDC candidate, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey.
