A book on Historical Overview of Ghana’s Mining Sector Fiscal Regimes was on Thursday launched in Accra.

The book documents the fiscal regime of Ghana’s mining sector from before Ghana was colonized to contemporary times.

The Author of the book, Benjamin Aryee said, the book brings to bear, the arrangement of Ghana’s mining sector long before the arrival of the colonial masters.

According to him, the book talks about the measures that were put in place among the key stakeholders.

“Prior to colonization traditional authorities were the ones given rights for mining and therefore any payment went to them but during colonization the colonial government super-imposed a second layer on them and took over the admission of rights”, he said.

He further noted that the, book raises some very important issues in the mining sector on the admission of rights to miners and the allocation of the benefits derived from it which needs the attention of the country.

“There are some questions the book raises and issues we need to discuss and decide on with regards to the allocation of benefits derived from our mining sector” he noted.

Explaining the importance of the book to academia, the former CEO of mineral commission said, the book will serve as a reference to students and lecturers in mining.
