Ms Theodore Sarah Afful, the former Deputy Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region, has projected an 85% win for the party in the upcoming general elections.

She attributes this to the significant infrastructural and social development initiatives implemented under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Ms Afful, a native of Gegem in the Cape Coast South Constituency, believes the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by the current government has revolutionized education in fishing communities, leading to the emergence of graduates in nearly every household. She recalls that during her childhood, it was nearly impossible for fishermen to afford higher education for their children, but the introduction of the Free SHS policy has changed that narrative.

“Growing up in a fishing community, I witnessed firsthand the struggle of fishermen to send their children to higher education. Now, thanks to the Free SHS initiative, I can confidently say that almost every household has an educated individual,” she emphasized.

As the Central Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Afful made these remarks during a campaign tour through the streets of Cape Coast and the Kotokuraba market. She and her team educated residents and traders on the positive impact of NPP policies, particularly Dr. Bawumia’s plans for further development.

Afful highlighted that the Free SHS program is the biggest legacy left by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, especially in coastal regions where educational access was once limited. “Before the Free SHS policy, it was rare to find graduates in coastal households, but now, the number has increased significantly in fishing communities,” she stated.

She warned that voting against the NPP could jeopardize these gains, as many parents in fishing communities may struggle to afford their children’s education without the continuation of Free SHS. “It is crucial to vote for Dr. Bawumia to ensure the sustainability of this program and enable more fisherfolk to educate their wards,” Afful noted.

Samuel Atoquaye-Quaye, Coordinator for Alpha Patriots in Cape Coast South and a polling station executive, echoed her sentiments. He urged Ghanaians to dismiss the opposition National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) claim of winning a significant portion of votes in the upcoming elections, asserting that the NPP is the only party that truly believes in the possibilities of improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

“NDC does not present a viable alternative. The NPP remains the only party committed to the progress and prosperity of Ghanaians. I urge everyone to rally behind the NPP government for continued growth and development,” Atoquaye-Quaye added.
