Kumasi, Sept. 22, GNA - Mr Wonder Madilo, President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), has called on members to unite and resist attempts by the immediate-past national executive to remain in power.
The Ishmael Tweneboah Koduah led old executive, are still posing as incumbent o fficers even though their one year term elapsed two months ago. Already the new national officers have been elected and sworn-in on September 7, this year.
The NUGS President accused the old executives of running a parallel administration and refusing to hand over vital documents of the Union in their possession.
The situation, he maintained, was dividing the student front and creating unnecessary tension.
Mr Madilo was addressing this year's United Nations (UN) International Day of Peace, hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in Kumasi.
He described the actions of the former executive as unfair and against the rules and regulations of the Union and hinted that the leadership would hold a press conference this week to state their position on the conduct of the former officers. He called on members of NUGS to respect and uphold the tenets of democracy.
Mr Madilo used the occasion to appeal to the government to increase investment in tertiary education to help unlock its development potentials.
He also spoke against what he said was the politics of insults, lies and the playing of the tribal card by some politicians for their own selfish gain and advised the youth to be wary of such people. He said they should not allow themselves to be misled into violence by self-seeking politicians.
