The Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been slated to launch the 70th Anniversary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Tuesday at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast in Accra.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Kofi Yeboah, the General Secretary of the Association said the launching ceremony will be chaired by Dr Daniel McKorley, the Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies.
The statement said the GJA 70th Anniversary celebration would be on the theme: “Democracy, freedom and independence of the media in Ghana: 70 years of GJA’s contribution.
It said Government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Former Presidents and national executive members of the GJA, veteran and senior journalists, representatives of corporate Ghana and other dignitaries would be expected to be present.
It said as part of the day’s activities, there would be the inauguration of members of the National Planning Committee to oversee activities for the Platinum Anniversary to be celebrated throughout the country.
It said, the GJA would also use the occasion to honour former President Kufuor for his tremendous support to the Association and efforts at promoting the freedom and independence of the media.
“Other individuals and corporate bodies who have supported the GJA in particular and the media in general over the past decades would also be recognised later,” the statement said.
“The National Executive of the GJA wishes to extend profound gratitude to the managements of Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast for sponsoring the venue for the launch and Ghana Television, TV3 and Atinka TV for accepting to telecast the ceremony live” it added.
