A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former presidential staffer, Alhaji Baba Lamin Abu Sadat, has sent a message of caution to the Electoral Commission of Ghana to be fair and transparent in the ongoing limited registration exercise.
He said the NDC is ready and prepared to expose any foul play the EC and the ruling party may attempt to orchestrate during and after the exercise, which will come to an end in a few days.
Making reference to some anomalies in figures presented by the EC, Hon. Alhaji Baba Lamin on Kumasi-based Alfa Radio described it as a deliberate attempt by the EC to favor the ruling party.
He recalled that the EC, during the 2020 elections, projected numerous figures as the election results, which gave President Akufo-Addo his second term in office. He said he believes the EC's figures, which the NDC exposed, were a deliberate attempt to give the NPP an advantage.
He expressed concern over how the Head Office of the Electoral Commission has been packed with known NPP sympathizers, adding that most of the EC presiding and returning officers at the district levels are also members of the NPP executives. He, therefore, called on all NDC members to be vigilant and careful with the NPP in the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024.
He revealed that executives of Awutu Senya East have outlined measures to ensure that no NPP sympathizer will be used as a presiding or returning officer during the election and urged other NDC constituency executives to adopt the same as the country goes to the polls.
He called on all NDC executives to work hard to ensure that the party comes to power because Ghanaians are looking for change, and that change depends on the efforts and commitments of all from this period to the election day.
He appealed to first-time voters to exercise patience while in the queue to register and urged them to vote for John Mahama and the NDC Members of Parliament to ensure that John Mahama and the NDC have the majority in Parliament.
