Four Slaughtered In Gang Style Attack

Four people including the former Deputy Financial Controller of Ghana Telecom were executed in a gangland style murder Sunday night, provoking fears that the murderers knew the victims, as they left without taking away any valuables. Mr. Kwaku Awuah Boateng, 61, was cut down with AK 47 assault rifles which were also turned on three others including his niece at his house in Dome Pillar Two, a suburb of Accra..

The pair of killers reportedly first held a third year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who was on visit at gun point who lead them to the main building where some of the occupants of the house were then seated, watching television.

They then held all five persons at gun point and demanded that they bring out Mr. Boateng who was by then in his room.

The student managed to escape as the robbers attempted to capture Boateng. It was gathered the men took some money contained in black polythene bag, leaving three mobile phones untouched. One report had it that Mr. Boateng had gone to withdraw some money from the bank earlier.

At this time, they began hitting Boateng in the ribs with the butt of their guns and subsequently shot him through the chest.

Another lady believed to be in her early 20s was also shot in the head, killing her instantly while the killers pumped more bullets into her knees.

Two others, a security man at the house and a caretaker of Boateng?s second house were also shot and killed.

The wife of the murdered man, a headmistress of a school at Burma Camp was away to a hair dressing saloon when she was met by the student who had slipped away. They both fled to inform friends who called in the police.

By the time the police got to the scene around 12:00 midnight, the bodies of the four had already been taken to the Police Hospital by some friends of the family.

When The Chronicle got to the scene yesterday, some family members were wailing, with others cleaning the blood splashed all over the place.

This reporter found more than eight bullet holes on the floor and the walls. A brother of Boateng who spoke to the paper indicated that 16 empty shells of the catridges used were found at the scene.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Boateng who was still traumatized by press time, had been hospitalized. The police have also detailed six of their men on a 24-hour surveillance of the house with investigations still going on.

The police have invited the deceased?s driver, called Kofi, alias Fante Fante for questioning.

Police boss Patrick Timbilla was handling the investigations and said they would track down the murderers who escaped through the bush on foot.

It was learnt that Mr. Boateng had just returned from the US where he visited three of his children, two boys and one girl, who is a doctor.
