Four candidates to contest Offinso South by-election

Kumasi, Oct. 07, GNA - Four candidates including two women have filed their nominations to contest the Offinso South Constituency Parliamentary by-election scheduled for Tuesday, October 24.

They are Dr Owusu Achaw Duah, 58, a Medical Practitioner who is contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Mrs Barbara Serwaah Asamoah, 32, a student, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The rest are Miss Doris Appiah, 37, a trader vying on the ticket of the Democratic People's Party (DPP) and Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Addai, 59, a teacher and an Independent candidate.

Mr Kofi Asomaning, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Friday, said the Commission was ready for the election.

He said they had not encountered any problem with the filing of nominations or with the electioneering campaign in the constituency. Mr Asomaning however, hinted that a training programme for election officers would be organised to ensure a successful and peaceful elections in the country.

He stressed the need for the electorate, political parties and candidates to ensure peaceful, free and fair election saying 93There is the need for all a nd sundry to conduct themselves well for incident free-election.

The by-election became necessary following the death of Mr Kwabena Sarfo Member of Parliament (MP) for the area in August 11, this year.
