Nsawam (E/R), April 28, GNA - Four farming communities in the Akuapem South District, have banned wake-keeping to avoid criminals taking advantage of it to attack innocent persons at night. The communities are Yaw Duodu, Aburi-Amanfo, Adukro and Apantam. Briefing the Ghana News Agency at a general meeting organised by the chiefs, assembly members and the people, Nana Kwasi Osafo, chief of Yaw Duodu said a number of people had fallen victims to criminals who attacked them when they were returning from wake-keeping in the area. Nana Osafo appealed for police assistance to curb criminal activities such as wee smoking and stealing in the area.
Nana Beni Asamoah, chief of Aburi-Amanfo, who chaired the meeting said whenever there was a wake keeping the criminals were seen carrying dangerous weapons, which they used on unsuspecting victims. He said their communities were far away from the Nsawam Police Station and appealed to the Ministry of Interior to re-open the Police Post at Obodan, which was closer to the communities.
