Tamale, July 9, GNA -Four communities in the Tamale Metropolis would benefit from a 10 million dollar Second Phase Urban Environmental Sanitation Project under which sanitation facilities would be upgraded. The World Bank funded project, would construct new public toilets and rehabilitate some existing old ones at Tishegu/Mohiyibihi, Aboabo/Poloyafong, Buipula and Lamashegu/ Lamakara. Mr. Sampson Akwettey, Coordinator of the Urban Environmental Sanitation Project announced this during an inspection tour of the sanitation facilities in the metropolis with Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (TMCE) on Saturday. They also inspected the Tamale Land field where both solid and liquid waste is disposed off to enable the TMCE to acquaint himself with challenges at the site.
Mr. Sampson Akwettey said some basic schools in the metropolis would also be provided with toilet facilities while a road from the Tamale Central Market would be constructed, tarred and provided with streets lights to link to Aboabo to reduce congestion on the main road linking the two markets.
Mr. Adam appealed to members of the beneficiary communities to co-operate with the constructors that would be executing the projects since the projects would help improve their living conditions. 09 July 06
