Four person have been reported injured and currently on admission at the Salaga Government Hospital and a private clinic in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region.

This follows an almost three hours of downpour in parts of the Region. The rain, according to some residents, began at about 11:30 Saturday, flooding the entire Salaga township.

Shops situated on the edges on drains were also flooded as property running into thousands of Cedis were destroyed.

The four, two of whom suffered head and neck injuries, were caught up in the floods, which swept through the District.

Some residents including the East Gonja District Chief Executive, Mohammed Tanimu, have blamed the floods on choked gutters. He is unable to tell how many homes have been affected but believes a chunk of homes have been affected.

Two houses have been completely destroyed.

Meanwhile, passengers who ply the Salaga/Kpandai road have also been left stranded. The bridge on the only road that links the two districts has been washed away leaving passengers with no hope of crossing.

Some passengers are still hoping to cross over to their various destinations as they remain at the banks of the stream.

District Chief Executive Mohammed Tanimu hopes to find solutions to the destruction. “This is the situation and it’s serious.

I will be putting together the necessary report to get to resolve this soon.”
