The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo-Suame, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has stated that four years is not enough for the Kufuor administration to salvage and improve the economy.
He said the derailment of the economy is of such serious proportion that to transform it would require more than a term.
The MP, however, gave the assurance that government is initiating moves that will lead to the stabilisation of the economy and to attract foreign investment .
Speaking at a public forum at Kronum, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urged the chiefs and people of the area to team up with the new Assemblywoman and Unit Committee members to initiate programmes to attract government's intervention . He said for some reasons, after the 2000 elections, communities have become apathetic, expecting the government to meet all their demands.
He therefore appealed to the residents to shake off such spirit of apathy and rededicate themselves to the task of developing their community.
He urged members of the public to have confidence in the ability of the NPP government to deliver taking a cue from the stabilisation of the economy, the plummeting interests rates, inflation and the relative stability exchange rates and the availability of foodstuffs on the market.
The Old Tafo-Suame MP, who is also the Government Chief Whip, noted that unemployment and underdevelopment in the country is around 30 percent, stressing that the government will strive to address the situation.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, however, observed that the conduct and pronouncements of some individuals in the country tend to create the impression that the country is unstable and therefore unsafe to invest in.
