The Police have arrested the Ashanti regional Communications Director of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), for instigating an attack on fellow party member Baah Acheamfuor on Monday April 25.
Mr Kwaku Kyei, according to the police, hired thugs to assail Mr Acheamfuor while the latter was in the studios of the private radio station discussing political issues.
Public Relations Officers of the Ashanti Police Command, ASP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, told Class News in an interview on Tuesday April 26 that Mr Kyei was arrested moments after the incident but was granted police inquiry bail. He was, however, rearrested on Tuesday and charged for assault and conspiracy to commit assault.
Mr Acheamfuor, a known critic of his own party, was assaulted by macho men while he spoke on the party’s behalf at the station.
“According to the information that we have, it is Mr Kyei, who called the people [macho men] to the scene because Mr Kyei was the first person to be there to protest the presence of Mr Baah Acheamfuor at Fox FM,” ASP Tanko said.
