France Supports Communities in Greater Accra

The Mayor of Accra Mr. Alfred Oko Vandapuye has disclosed that the AgenceFrançaise de Développement (AFD) in France has extended its support to upgraded extra seven communities in the Greater Accra region of Ghana to a residential status under the community development project.
The Mayor who broke the news on Wednesday evening in a press briefing at the Kotoka International Airport upon his return from a three days working visit to Paris noted that, the incentive is to give a facelift to deprived communities especially the slam dwelling ones in the country.
Mr. Vanddapuje hinted that, based on the good working relationship that exists between Ghana and France, the AFD which is the funding center for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France has been sponsoring community upgrading projects in Ghana including the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Nima, Mamobi and La according to the Mayor will see a major transformation under the community development project within Accra. He mentioned the Mamponse community development project as part of the AFD sponsored initiatives and commended the effort of other Districts Assemblies and the AMA for making it a success.
According to Mr. Vandapuye, roads, drains, streetlights, Market Square and among other social and recreational centers are inclusive in the community development projects.
He made reference to the fact that, his entourage was offered one of the best receptions considering the peace Ghana has maintained before during and after the 7 December 2012 elections.
In a related development the mayor indicated that, aside the 72 millennium City schools which are under construction, the Chinese government has also added one.
He commended both the French and Chinese Governments for the continuous support been extended to Ghana.
