The Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by Mr Justice Alex Obeng Asante has fined a driver, Mohammed Asmion, GHc 600.00 for defrauding by false pretence or in default spend 8 months imprison in hard labour.

Asmion, 47, pleaded guilty.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the Court that the complainant who is a trader and resident of Cyanide, a suburb of Tarkwa, in 2013 expressed interest to buy an Urvan van.

He discussed it with the convict who lives in Takoradi and works with global Haulage Company.

Asmion told the complainant that he had seen an Urvan van at Bibiani being sold for GHc 11,500.00.

The complainant gave the money to the convict to purchase the vehicle for her.

Inspector Amponsah said after the money was given to Asmion he disappeared and all efforts to reach him on his mobile phone was unsuccessful.

He said on July 16 the complainant travelled to Agona Nkwanta and while returning to Tarkwa she saw the convict standing by a truck, and she approached him to demand her money.

The Prosecutor said Asmion could not give any tangible explanation and was escorted to the police station by the complainant.

Inspector Amponsah said the convict refunded GHc3,000.00 while the case was under investigation.

The judge advised the complainant to seek civil action to claim the remaining balance of GHc 8,500.00 if she so wishes.
