First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Freddie Blay has sought to dispute assertions by the party's National Treasurer, Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah that Nana Akufo-Addo, a flag-bearer aspirant has not given the party any money to finance Saturday’s election because the party was cash trapped.
According to the National Treasurer "no presidential candidate" has brought even a penny towards the organizing of the elections, adding that "the party has provided every logistics needed for tomorrow’s exercise. We have paid for transport for polling station officers in orphan constituencies and we have an agreement with MPs to support in their constituencies."
“I stayed in my office till 9pm last night. No aspirant has given the party any money,” he told the media.
But in an exclusive interview with Peacefmonline.com , the First Vice Chairman said he does not blame his National Treasurer for his lack of information regarding Nana Akufo-Addo’s contribution to the orphan constituencies since the money was not deposited at the party’s head office.
The former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament insisted he can vouch that Nana Akufo-Addo has given money to the orphan constituencies in the Northern, Brong Ahafo, Volta and Western Regions respectively to help bus delegates to the polling centers.
He however wondered why the National Treasurer could grant an interview on Nana Akufo-Addo’s contribution without cross checking from the various constituencies.
“My national treasurer was not lying from what he said because at the time he was speaking, he has not been made aware that money has been sent to the various constituencies. In fact,...by midday some of us have been made aware from our checks with the various orphan constituencies in the Northern Region, Brong Ahafo Region, Volta Region and Western Region,” he added.
