Free Education: NPP slams Mahama for playing the ostrich

The New Patriotic Part (NPP) says its promise of free Senior High School education is better than the ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) policy of expanding access to education.

The party has also slammed the NDC, saying, that party has no better education record as it wants Ghanaians to believe.

Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Ken Nuworsu, who made these remarks was reacting to President Mahama’s ridicule of the party’s free SHS promise.

On his recent tour of the place President Mahama told residents of the Volta Region supporters that the NPP and its flagbearer may even promise free air for Ghanaians as part of their desperate efforts to win power.

But Mr. Ken Nuworsu told XYZ News the party’s free SHS policy is superior to the NDC’s educational policy.

“When the free education of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was rolled out in the north, did [he] build schools across the northern region before rolling out the free education programme?” he asked, adding: “The point is that it is better for us to role free education for all Ghanaians who have access to education now while we try to expand facilities for every school going Ghanaian.”

Mr Nuworsu said the NPP’s track record in the educational sector is laudable after building model schools in every District across the country to the standard of the very well-known first class second cycle schools across the country.

“Is the NDC and for that matter the president saying that they haven’t seen the school buses that we have given to every school?... Are they saying that they haven’t seen the expansion of technical schools and the expansion and upgrading of training colleges in the country?” he queried.
