The Free SHS policy was a major promise by the NPP and Mr Akufo-Addo in the run-up to the 2012 and 2016 general elections.

The Deputy Minister, speaking to journalists after a three-day dialogue session with regional, metropolitan, municipal, and district directors of education, as well as other stakeholders in the sector on the implementation of government’s educational policies in Kumasi, said government would equip the team to discharge its duties.

She emphasised that government was committed to seeing the successful implementation of the policy since it would contribute immensely to national development.

“For the team to be able to work efficiently, they may need certain logistics, maybe transport and a few other things. So we assure them that all that they need to do effective evaluation and monitoring, the Ministry is ready to support them so that they will be able to work efficiently and effectively,” she said.

Madam Asher Ayisi also re-echoed a directive from the Ministry and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to all heads of schools and directors of education not to charge unapproved fees under the policy.

She warned the ministry would not hesitate to deal with directors and heads who flout the directive.
