Free SHS tipped best government policy in poverty eradication

Free SHS plague Free SHS plague

The Director of Social Protection at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Dr. Rita Owusu Amankwah, has stated that the Free Senior High School Policy implemented by government will help eradicate poverty in the country.

The policy, which has seen an increase in enrollment in second cycle schools, she has reiterated, has great prospects for the country.

She continued the policy on a larger scale has brought enormous relief to parents and guardians and has also created opportunity for many children to be educated.

Speaking to Onua FM at a Video Premiering of beneficiary’s experiences with Social Protection Programmes for Poverty Reduction organized by IMANI, Dr. Rita Owusu Amankwah said Ghanaians in the near future will attest and laud government for Free SHS and its implementation.

She said though government is putting in efforts to eradicate abject poverty through Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), Planting for Food and Jobs and other programmes, the best policy to considerably eradicate poverty is the Free SHS.

“When someone completes second cycle school, that person ultimately and automatically becomes open minded in acquiring basic skills that can propel his or her live.”

“They become easy to go especially when enrolled into apprenticeship or enter into trader,” she added.

Dr. Rita Owusu Amankwah has therefore urged the general public to fully embrace the Free Senior High School Policy in order to help annihilate abject poverty in the country.
