A protester of the #FreeTheCitizens and #SayNoToGalamsey protest made time to educate traders of the devastating effects of galamsey and the need for a call on the government to take an action to tackle the issue.
In a video, he could be heard urging the traders to join in the protest to march to the Accra Sports Stadium to call on the government to take an immediate action on illegal mining activities because the environment is the life of citizens.
The male protester said, "We are Ghanaians, we are Ghanaian women, we are saying that they should stop the galamsey. All of you traders are part of it. They will hear you if you speak, so, don’t sit idle. If you are selling, say no to galamsey.
"So, all of you are citizens of Ghana; Ghanaians and no other people are protesting. So, you can join us, so that we all march to Accra Sports Stadium and tell the government that there is no sense in the galamsey activities, because the environment is our life."
The #FreeTheCitizens and #SayNoToGalamsey is a three-day protest organised by the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey to draw attention on their fellow protesters who were arrested last week for breaching protest laws.
The protest also aims to shed light on the dangerous effects of illegal mining on Ghana’s environment and water bodies and demand immediate action to address the issue.
