French President Nicolas Sarkozy congratulated Atta Mills on his victory, saying it was a victory for democracy. Sarkozy said he was “convinced that under your guidance your country will make more progress, respecting the institutions and liberties as the entire international community is watching”.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown congratulated Atta Mills on his victory, and telephoned Kufuor to congratulate him on his immense contribution.
