A natural medicine researcher, Oheneba Ntim-Barimah has said that the frequent consumption of bitter kola can help boost male fertility.

Speaking recently on ‘My Health, My Life' on Oman FM, he stated that the health benefits of bitter kola include boosting sperm production and enhancing male reproductive health.

“Bitter kola helps with male fertility. In Hausa, it is referred to as ‘miji-goro’ which means medicine for men or men’s kola.

"It significantly boosts male sexual power and helps in the production of sperms. It is sometimes believed to cure impotence in men and it also enhances sexual performance in men,” he noted.

Sharing his personal experience with bitter kola, he said at his age, he doesn’t experience sexual weakness because of his frequent intake of the natural product.

“This September. I will be 66, and I have fathered a beautiful girl. Most men experience sexual weakness at this age, but my case is different because I take in bitter kola.

"I have no problems with male fertility. When my previous marriage ended, people thought I was incapable of fathering a child, but I am vindicated today. I have a baby girl now. At my age, my sperms are strong, all because I take bitter kola”, he stated.

He, however, expressed worry over the surge in low sperm counts in young men in recent times, and advised them to take good care of themselves by eating more fruits and vegetables.

About Bitter Kola:

Bitter kola, also known as bitter cola or Garcinia Kola, is a plant found in Central and Western Africa that has long been valued for its medicinal properties.

Although traditional African medicine uses all parts of the Bitter Kola plant, the seeds are mostly commonly eaten.

Bitter kola seeds have a sharp, bitter flavor that eases into a slight sweetness as you chew, and they’re typically eaten raw.
