Friends of Dr Zenator Agyeman Rawlings have kicked against allegations by Friends of Nii Armah Ashietey (FONAA) which discredit the candidature of Dr Zenator.

A statement issued in Accra by the group and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday said, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings had been given the green light by the party’s Vetting Committee to contest the NDC parliamentary primary in the Klottey Korle Constituency.

It said, all that FONAA was doing, therefore, was only trying to throw dust into the eyes of right thinking Ghanaians.

The statement said since Nii Armah Ashietey became MP for Klottey Korle in 2008, the fortunes of the NDC in the constituency had been dwindling, hence the need for him to step down.

It said in the 2008 parliamentary elections, Nii Armah Ashietey polled 30,633 votes representing 50.60% of total votes cast.

The statement said the NPP’s Samuel Adjei Tawiah polled 28,011 being 46.27% of total votes, adding that the implications of losing the seat had far-reaching consequences for the NDC.

It called as lies claims that Nii Armah Ashietey rehabilitated a number of schools like the Osu Presby Boys Primary, Presby Girls Primary, Osu Salem Basic School, Osu Presby Kindergarten, King Tackie School.

The statement said the claim that the MP reconstructed the Manhean Basic School in Osu was also a lie, since this was done by an NGO.

It said the MP also claimed he had disbursed numerous scholarships and bursaries was a lie.

The statement noted that Dr Rawlings was rather embarking on initiatives, such as the implementation of well-being programmes, including regular free health screenings, improving health facilities in the constituency, Improving the sanitation conditions of the constituency through continuous public education to change attitudes, dredging the Klottey and Korle lagoons, and initiating plans for long term solutions to the sanitation problems.

It said she was also embarking on a project in partnership with the district assemblies and other organisations to ensure that all households within the constituency had toilets and access to potable water to ensure that the community was developed and healthy.

The statement said she would facilitate easy access to education through availability of scholarships, and the improvement of education facilities in the constituency, liaising with companies in the constituency to provide jobs for skilled constituents.

It said she would provide skills development for the unskilled especially the youth as she had already started with on-going projects.

It said Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings was an all-out NDC member, and supports the President John Dramani Mahama’s Agenda of Changing Lives and Transforming Ghana.
