For the first time in over 7 years, a budget statement of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government would be read by a Minister of Finance other than Ken Ofori-Atta.
Ofori-Atta, now the Senior Presidential Advisor on the Economy and Ghana’s Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments, used to enter the Parliament of Ghana dressed in all white, often with brown or green leather accessories.
The former Minister of Finance's signature white attire and leather bags were noticeably absent during the arrival of his successor.
The current Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, arrived in Parliament for the presentation of the 2024 Mid-Year Budget Review, accompanied by his deputies in traditional multi-colored smocks (fugu) and black and white cap.
Dr. Amin also carried the budget statement in a black leather bag, a departure from the green or brown leather bags traditionally used for Ghana's budget presentations.
Ofori-Atta's practice of incorporating quotes from the Holy Bible during budget presentations is also likely to be missed.
Check out pictures of Dr. Amin Adam’s arrival and that of Ofori-Atta below:
